Thomas Jeffrey Hanks was born into a modest family in Concord, California. He started his career since he was unable to be cast in a college production, despite having no prior acting experience. His career as an actor began in Cleveland, where he was invited by the director of a community theater production to audition for a play. Big (1988) established him as a prominent Hollywood figure, both as a box-office draw and as an actor within the film industry. Hanks received his first Oscar nomination for Best Actor for his performance in the film. A League of Their Own (1992), Sleepless in Seattle (1993), and Philadelphia are a few of his blockbusters (1993). Hanks received his second Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance in Forrest Gump, becoming only the second actor to win consecutive Best Actor Oscars. His first film as a director was the musical comedy That Thing You Do! (1996)
